Scholarship Information

This scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Gail and Hilda Oster for the purpose of providing meaningful support to graduating high school seniors or graduates who are residents of Van Buren County or graduating high school seniors or graduates of high schools within Van Buren County who are planning to pursue or are pursuing bachelor's degrees at Western Michigan University or University of Michigan in the fields of education or mathematics or are planning to pursue or are pursuing training at Michigan State University in the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Eligibility Criteria

Van Buren County resident who is a graduating high school senior or graduate, or a high school senior or graduate from a high school within Van Buren County; enrolled or planning to enroll full time in a bachelor's degree program at the University of Michigan or Western Michigan University in education or mathematics. Minimum 2.75 GPA for graduating high school seniors or undergraduates.

Graduate of a Van Buren County high school; enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in a veterinary technology or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program; minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate students; financial need.

Application Requirements

The following must be submitted to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation:

eGRANT scholarship application and cover page (automatically generated by eGRANT upon completion of the application).

Activities and Employment History Form must be filled out and attached to the eGRANT application.

Essay, not to exceed 500 typewritten words, must be written and attached to the eGRANT application. Address why you merit consideration for this scholarship. Include how extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences and leadership roles have helped to prepare you for your choice of study. If you have overcome challenges or improved in motivation and achievement during high school and/or college, please provide this information also.


The following must be mailed or delivered to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation
by March 31:


Two copies of the Scholarship Recommendation Form and Letters of Recommendation completed by adults other than family members who know you and your skills.

One official copy of your most recent high school or college transcript.


The following must be sent to the college(s) of your choice by March 31:

The Financial Information Summary form.
