Scholarship Search

There are literally thousands of scholarships available to students today. We want to help you find and take full advantage of all the opportunities available to you. This scholarship search tool focuses on the sources of aid available in Kalamazoo County, including scholarships offered by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.

Many of the scholarships listed here are for high school seniors, but there also are several for students already enrolled in college and non-traditional students. The descriptions shown are a summary and may not provide complete eligibility requirements. All Kalamazoo Community Foundation scholarships (those denoted by ) may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books, transportation and personal expenses associated with the cost of education.

Scholarship Information

The S. Rudolph Light Medical Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to medical students, dental students and master's of nursing students.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an S. Rudolph Light Medical Education Scholarship, the applicant must have been a permanent Kalamazoo County resident while attending high school or must be a graduate of a Kalamazoo County high school and applying to or admitted to a school of medicine, dentistry or a master's of nursing program. Must demonstrate the necessary aptitude and other qualities requisite to his/her chosen profession; Able to demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Application Requirements

The following must be electronically submitted to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation:

  1. eGRANTscholarship application.
  2. Essay typed into the text box in the eGRANT application addressing why you merit consideration for this scholarship. Include how extracurricular activities volunteer experiences and leadership roles have helped to prepare you for your choice of study. If you have overcome challenges or improved in motivation and achievement please provide this information also.

The following must be received by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation by March 1:

  1. Two copies of the Scholarship Recommendation Form and Letters of Recommendation completed by adults other than family members. Recommendations should address your aptitude and other qualities essential for your chosen profession. At least one should be from a professor.
  2. Currently enrolled medical dental and nursing students must; submit one copy of the S. Rudolph Light Medical Education Scholarship - Dean's Form completed by a representative of the dean's office of the school you attend. This will serve as one of your two required recommendations.
  3. Proof of admission to the medical dental or nursing program if you are entering your first year.
  4. An official college transcript of your undergraduate work. Students enrolled for at least one year as a full-time; medical, dental or nursing student may only provide an official transcript of course work completed while in their graduate program.
