Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation announces free event in Kalamazoo: "Re2pect Your Community Presented by PNC Bank"

Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation today announced it will hold a special event, Re2pect Your Community Presented by PNC Bank in partnership with the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, on Wednesday, July 30th at Chenery Auditorium in Kalamazoo.

This important event is free and open to the public, and is intended to inspire and empower every local resident to work together toward a better Kalamazoo. Reservations are required and Kalamazoo residents interested in attending can RSVP by calling 269.381.4416 or emailing RSVP@kalfound.org.

New York Times best-selling authors Dr. Sampson Davis, Dr. George Jenkins and Dr. Rameck Hunt –– The Three Doctors –– will share the story of how their quest to reach their full potential helped them to overcome the obstacles they faced as young men growing up on the tough, inner-city streets of Newark, New Jersey and have a positive impact on their community and beyond.

“Having grown up in Kalamazoo, I have so much respect for this community,” said Derek Jeter. “Respecting your community means being part of a team and working to help shape its future. We are proud to be part of that team and we hope to inspire all community members to help build a better Kalamazoo.”

“PNC has a long history of strengthening and enriching the lives of its neighbors,” said PNC Regional President Sean Welsh. “'Re2pect Your Community' is a powerful, inspirational program consistent with PNC’s longstanding commitment to the communities we serve.”

Re2pect Your Community Presented by PNC Bank is hosted by high school students from the Jeter’s Leaders program as part of its bi-annual Jeter’s Leaders Community Service Project week.

“Social change is one of the cornerstones of the Jeter’s Leaders program, and that is why they thought it was so important to bring the Re2pect Your Community event to Kalamazoo as part of their Community Service Project,” said Sharlee Jeter, president of the Turn 2 Foundation. “Having worked extensively with the Three Doctors during the past year, our Jeter’s Leaders know their story well, and felt their powerful message would resonate with this community.”

Jeter’s Leaders is the signature program of Turn 2, an organization established in 1996 by New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter to motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and ‘turn to’ healthy lifestyles. The four-year program fosters academic achievement, positive behavior, healthy lifestyles, leadership development and social change among high school students in Kalamazoo and New York who serve as ambassadors for Derek in their communities.
