Transfer of Wealth: Research Information

The transfer of wealth information highlighted on these pages was released by the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) for Rural Entrepreneurship and was funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

The research estimates future intergenerational wealth transfer (TOW) for each county in Michigan. The research model was initially created by Boston College to determine a value for total wealth in Michigan, which included the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finance and the 2004 Census Current Population Survey.

The research model allocated the total wealth to all counties and adjusted the wealth by county according to age, size of household, presence of children, income from self-employment, education level and presence of high-wealth families.

U.S. Census population growth estimates at the county level were applied to each county, with projects out to 2060.
