What kinds of programs does BetterTogether/Kalamazoo support?

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has defined three investment priorities for BetterTogether/Kalamazoo. These priorities are a helpful guide to groups applying for funding or participating in BetterTogether/Kalamazoo programs.

Bridging Communities
BetterTogether/Kalamazoo supports efforts that help people learn about and understand our differences. The Community Foundation's goal is to build bridges across barriers such as race, age, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and economic circumstance. The Community Foundation promotes programs that encourage individuals and families from all walks of life to come together in collaboration as we all work to make our entire community a better place.

Engaging Residents
Because a driving force behind BetterTogether/Kalamazoo is the compelling evidence that more residents need to be involved in efforts to improve the community, the Community Foundation supports projects that engage individuals in community activities. We want to help people break out of their familiar, comfortable circles and enlist their participation in projects that will make a difference and establish a more fulfilling sense of community for all.

Embracing Youths
The future of the greater Kalamazoo area depends on the success of our young people. Their achievement is essential so they may be equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow. BetterTogether/Kalamazoo acknowledges the importance of youth involvement in our community and devotes resources to enhance their leadership skills. By doing so, we hope to not only help enrich the greater Kalamazoo area, but also the lives of its future leaders.
