The Lifeline Initiative
A Partnership of the Greater Kalamazoo United Way
and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation

Now more than ever, members of our community are experiencing the hardships of unemployment, housing loss or insecurity, and economic uncertainty. While Kalamazoo County is doing better than most of Michigan, the effects of the economic downturn on our community are very real and community needs are great. The Kalamazoo Community Foundation and Greater Kalamazoo United Way have partnered to address urgent human needs by establishing the Lifeline Initiative, a rapid response to the economic storm battering our community.

Nonprofit organizations recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code* and in good standing with the IRS are eligible to apply for grants that will benefit residents of Kalamazoo County. Applicant agencies do not need to be United Way member agencies.

The Lifeline Initiative's funding priorities are basic human needs, such as:

• Shelter and housing
• Food
• Safety and Security
• Clothing
• Transportation
• Quality child care
• Access to health care

*Organizations that have had tax-exempt status suspended by the Internal Revenue Service are not eligible to receive grants.
