Scholarship Search

There are literally thousands of scholarships available to students today. We want to help you find and take full advantage of all the opportunities available to you. This scholarship search tool focuses on the sources of aid available by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.

Many of the scholarships listed here are for high school seniors, but there also are several for students already enrolled in college and non-traditional students. The descriptions shown are a summary and may not provide complete eligibility requirements. All Kalamazoo Community Foundation scholarships may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books, transportation and personal expenses associated with the cost of education.

Scholarship Information

Friends and family of Mildred McConkey, an English teacher at Kalamazoo Central High School from 1926 to 1958, established the Mildred McConkey Memorial Scholarship as a tribute to her in 1983. The scholarship provides financial support to a senior from Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix High School and is intended to recognize noteworthy improvement during the student's three to four years of high school course work in English composition.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be a graduating Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix High School senior planning to enroll full time in an accredited college or university. The applicant must have shown noteworthy improvement during his/her three to four years of high school course work in English thereby having achieved exceptional ability in English composition.

Application Requirements

  1. Complete and submit one online scholarship application. We will match you to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation scholarship(s) that you are eligible for.
  2. If you are matched to this scholarship, we will notify you, via email, that the following is required:
  • In addition, we will ask you to give specific examples of how you have improved in English composition during your four years of high school (do not include any identifying names of teachers high school or high school literary magazines).
     3.  Official cumulative high school transcript through the first semester or trimester of the senior year including SAT/ACT score(s).

We recommend doing multiple searches, entering one interest area each time, such as: Arts, athletics, business, education, golf, law, merit, non-traditional, restaurant, science, technology, vocational.
