Ben Lando

Ben Lando, a 4th generation Kalamazooan, became a journalist 23 years ago covering Kalamazoo city and county governments and other community stories for local radio stations and newspapers. Ben is a graduate from Loy Norrix High School and Western Michigan University. From 2006 to 2009, he was based in Washington, D.C., working as a reporter and editor for United Press International covering U.S. and global energy, political, and security stories, and has reported from more than a dozen countries. He moved to Baghdad in 2009 as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Time, and other news outlets. He lived in Iraq until 2013, during which time he founded www.iraqoilreport.com which remains the premier outlet covering economic, security, and political developments in the country. He returned home in 2013, started a family, and launched NowKalamazoo in 2019 to fill the gaps created by the decline in local journalism and to help tell stories from all of our community.
