Building resilience and understanding

John Dewey, renowned educator, states, “It is not the experiences people have in and of themselves that make them who they are, but rather the way in which the people choose to reflect on those experiences that defines them.” SiF uses inductive learning, interpersonal communication, mindfulness and resilience techniques to help participants redefine their personal narratives and obtain a better understanding of the world around them.

Over the last few years, SiF has expanded its reach working with vulnerable populations, service organizations and colleges offering mindfulness and community organizing and outreach. SiF’s work also intersects with the school to prison pipeline, incarceration and community engagement - each directly connected to issues and populations affected by inequality, systemic racism and intergenerational poverty.

“Speak It Forward is saving one soul at a time. This exponentially impacts our future in a positive way. Every time I witness their work, I am reminded how much our community need organizations like this to help move us forward!”
